HIM Coordinator - Behavioral Hospital

The HIM Coordinator's responsibilities include the following:
Carrying out the activities of the Health Information/Medical Records department in the maintenance of all patient medical records information, ensuring compliance will all state and federal laws, rules/regulations of licensing agencies and within Joint Commission standards for the quality of patient care.
- Retrieves discharged patient records from floor on a daily basis
- Assembles charts for Director to code
- Files transcribed reports on a daily basis.
- Monitor the quality of the transcription services to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Refile returned records on a daily basis.
- Shift patient charts in department as necessary to accommodate additional records.
- Answers phone in department and responds to requests
- Pulls records for other departments
- Prepares records for release of information
- Maintain confidentiality of medical records, ensuring the release of files and/or records to only appropriate and authorized authorities.
Qualified candidates must have the following:
Education: High school diploma or GED and equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Previous experience in health information management/ medical records and/or direct experience in a health care psychiatric facility preferred.
