Activities Therapist
The Activities Therapist will be part of a compassionate team of professionals providing high quality care to patients in a comforting, yet fun environment. Our team is extremely collaborative with one another and the patients and their families seeking to optimize the therapeutic value our patients receive while in our care.
Job Functions
· Encourage individuals to participate in individual and group activities of a physical, social, and cultural nature such as indoor and outdoor games, sports, dance, simple crafts and leisure.
· Care for equipment and assigned facility areas
· Prevents injury by these persons to themselves, others or to property.
· Maintains security of working areas and work materials.
· Complete and maintain accurate records of services provided and ensure documentation in the patient charts in a timely manner.
· Apply appropriate TBRI techniques and Crisis Intervention skills when required.
· Responsible for creating and supporting a positive, professional, team-oriented, harassment-free work environment by understanding and complying with organization policies.
· Other duties as assigned
Skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; Ability to multi-task and successfully prioritize workload; Effective interpersonal and communication skills; Excellent organization skills with attention to detail preferred.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS
MOD1F1CA T1ONS TO THE MANNER IN WHICH THIS JOB MAYBE PERFORMED WILL BE REVIEWED ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS.
1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with hospital staff, physicians
and administration.
2.Must be able to work effectively and efficiently in an independent role.
3.Have the ability to sit and stand occasionally and walk frequently, reach above, at or below
waist height, kneel, bend, stoop, turn, twist and throw from occasionally to frequently.
4. Have the ability to communicate clearly and see well enough to read charts, treatment plans
and typewritten materials, hear well enough to detect noises on the unit and have the ability
to discern odors frequently.
5. Have the ability to lift and carry 10 pounds frequently, 10-50 pounds occasionally. Have the ability to handle hazardous/infectious waste frequently.
6. Have the ability to work in an environment where:
a. chemicals are used for cleaning frequently;
b. mechanical and electrical hazards may be present occasionally;
c. dust, mist and steam are generated in housekeeping tasks frequently.
7. Be able to remain calm while working efficiently under stressful conditions.
8. Must possess good communication skills, to include writing techniques for reports and
appeals and verbal presentations for telephone interactions and training seminars.
9. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position to include both sitting for long
periods of time and walking the grounds and units of the facility.
10. Be capable of the manual dexterity needed to use small business machines.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelors degree in social work, mental health/behavioral sciences, education or related field required.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a psychiatric or mental health treatment setting, including one year of managing a related function preferred. Experience in family motivation, and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities.
** Any combination of education and experience that would demonstrate history of competency or skill in working with psychiatric patients preferred **
