Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students as a PRN Para Educator at Perimeter Behavioral Health.

This is an on-call/substitute position designed to provide coverage based on facility and classroom needs. The PRN Para Educator may be called upon to work on short notice to cover staff absences, increased classroom needs, or other operational needs. Scheduling and hours may vary and are not guaranteed. This position may require availability for weekdays, weekends, holidays, and/or other shifts based on facility needs.

The PRN Para Educator works closely with teachers and the interdisciplinary treatment team to support students with academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and daily living needs. This position assists with classroom instruction, reinforces individualized education and behavior plans, provides supervision and support, and helps maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic learning environment.

The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, patient, compassionate, and comfortable working with students who may experience emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-call and substitute classroom support based on facility and staffing needs.
  • Assist teachers with implementing individualized academic programs, lesson plans, classroom activities, and instructional materials.
  • Provide individual and small-group support to students under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Reinforce academic skills, life skills, social-emotional skills, and appropriate classroom behaviors.
  • Support implementation of students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), behavior plans, treatment plans, and other individualized interventions as directed.
  • Maintain active supervision and line-of-sight observation of assigned students to promote safety and identify potential behavioral concerns.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, secure, and therapeutic classroom environment with clear expectations and consistent routines.
  • Model and reinforce appropriate behaviors, communication, social skills, coping skills, and classroom expectations.
  • Assist students with classroom activities, transitions, daily routines, and other educational activities as needed.
  • Utilize appropriate de-escalation techniques and authorized physical intervention procedures when necessary to maintain the safety of students and staff.
  • Observe, document, and communicate student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional progress to the classroom teacher and appropriate members of the treatment team.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate documentation, including daily grades/points, behavior data, progress notes, incident reports, and other required records.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and treat all students with dignity, respect, and consistency.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Help maintain classroom supplies, equipment, materials, schedules, and student progress displays.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, nursing staff, mental health technicians, administrators, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Attend required staff meetings, training, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records in accordance with company policies and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, safety standards, and chain-of-command requirements.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, special education, psychology, human services, social work, or a related field required.
  • Previous experience working with children, adolescents, individuals with behavioral or emotional challenges, or in a school, healthcare, behavioral health, or social services setting preferred.
  • Experience working with students with special education needs is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain CPR and Verbal De-Escalation certification within the first week of employment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow individualized education, behavioral, and treatment plans.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and student confidentiality.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during behavioral or emergency situations.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility and willingness to accept assignments based on facility and classroom needs.
  • Ability to respond to short-notice requests for coverage when available.
  • Availability to work varying schedules, which may include weekdays, weekends, holidays, and other shifts as needed.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach as required.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as needed and perform authorized physical intervention procedures when necessary for the safety of students and staff.
