Role Overview
The Internal Medicine Provider or Critical Care Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment to adolescents with behavioral health challenges and medically complex physical conditions within a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) setting. This role supports the ongoing management of acute and chronic medical conditions and collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team to ensure the safe and effective delivery of integrated medical and behavioral healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Conduct comprehensive medical evaluations and ongoing assessments for adolescents admitted to the medically complex or neurodivergent programming.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions including respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal, endocrine, and cardiovascular concerns.
- Provide ongoing medical oversight for youth requiring advanced medical monitoring including enteral feeding, oxygen therapy, and other medical interventions.
- Collaborate with psychiatry, nursing, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, and clinical teams to ensure integrated treatment planning.
- Develop, implement, and modify individualized medical care plans in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols.
Collaborative Practice
- Work closely with interdisciplinary treatment team
- Consult with psychiatrists and medical staff
- Coordinate care with therapists and nurses
- Engage with families in treatment planning
- Partner with community providers
Documentation & Quality
- Maintain accurate electronic health records
- Document clinical decisions and treatment rationales
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Monitor patient outcomes
Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- For Internal Medicine Provider: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school required. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine required.
- For Critical Care Nurse Practitioner: Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing required. Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner program required. Specialization in Acute Care or Critical Care preferred.
- Experience working with medically complex pediatric or adolescent populations preferred.
- Knowledge of chronic medical condition management and coordination of care within a residential or hospital setting.
- Current Missouri Medical License (MD/DO) OR Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) License required.
- Current DEA Registration required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
- Valid State Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements.
